Muscle Energy Technique (MET)
- Massage Therapy
Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) are an advanced type of stretch. The patient actively contracts a specific muscle in a precise direction against the practitioner's controlled counterforce, typically held for 3–5 seconds, followed by relaxation and gentle stretching into the new range. It works through neuromuscular reflexes (post-isometric relaxation and reciprocal inhibition) to lengthen shortened muscles, mobilize restricted joints, and restore normal movement.
